Seventy Beavers from across the district attended the annual District Fun Day at Earleywood on Sunday 4th July. The theme for the day was ‘Where in the World’.
After a huge parachute game and welcome ceremony, the Beavers were divided into groups, to wind their way around the world. They travelled to Japan and made origami whales, made a bridge to cross the Amazon River, travelled through the Egyptian pyramids before hunting for wildlife in Kenya and for creepy crawlies in the jungle. They camped out in an African hut whilst wearing traditional clothing and smashed crockery in Greece, with the obligatory Greek dancing thrown in for good measure. After a brief stop at the NASA space centre to fly rockets, they returned to Earleywood and all contributed in painting the souvenir badge onto boards, which will be hung up in the Rowney Building as a reminder of the day.
This year, we held a competition to design the event Badge. The winning design was made into the badge which everyone received at the end of the day. Prizes were given to the three top entries. Well done to all that took part in the competition.
As ever, days like these would not be possible without all the planning and effort put in by the Leaders and helpers, plus all the people from the District Scout Active Support Unit. On behalf of all the Beavers who attended, thank you very much for all your hard work and making this event so much Fun!

SIX A SIDE FOOTBALL COMPETITION
The annual football competition took place on Saturday 3rd july 2010. Due to exceptional circumstances there was a need to find a new venue. Sunningdale Parish council came to the rescue and the competition took place on their village playing field.
This proved a new and challenging experience in organizing the event, although with the usual help and enthusiasm from a fantastic team of scouters, Scout Actve Support members and parents the day ended as another enjoyable and successful scouting event.
We still managed to arrange the weather as being dry and sunny although perhaps somebody should have turned down the heat a few notches. This was also a very special year, for the first time ever our Beaver section played a final for the honour of being the first colonies to claim the new runners up and champions shields, I very much hope that this will continue for many years to come.

District Beaver Challenge
On 8th May 2010 eleven teams took part in the District Beaver Challenge event, held at Earleywood. They were once again competing for the chance to be crowned winner and accept the honour of holding the challenge shield for the next twelve months
Throughout the afternoon each team was set a number of tasks - Pairing opposites, Rush hour game, Welly throwing, answering quiz questions and building a tower strong enough to sustain an earthquake to name but a few. Points were awarded based on skill and the ability to work as a team.
After a very close run battle, the overall winners were:
1st Sunningdale Robins
Well done to all Beavers who took part, your behaviour was excellent throughout the whole event. Thank you to all Leaders, Young Leaders, Explorers and Scouts that helped with the running of the bases. The day wouldn’t have worked without you.

District Beaver Sleepover
Nineteen Beavers from three groups stayed on after the Challenge to enjoy their second event of the day – The Annual District Beaver Sleepover.
We started at 5pm with the Beavers enjoying parachute games, a wide game and generally letting of some steam. Then it was time for dinner. Fish and chips enjoyed by all. OK, so most of the Beavers had sausages or chicken nuggets, but the adults enjoyed the fish anyway.
The Beavers then took part in a camp-fire sing song where everyone had a great time ending with some yummy toasted marshmallows and hot chocolate.
9 o'clock and time for bed although not straight to sleep. A bedtime story was of course the order of the day.
After a continental style breakfast of Croissants and juice, the Sleepover concluded at 9 am Sunday morning with a Closing ceremony. Parents looked on as the Colony Flags were paraded, and badges and certificates were given out. They were also entertained with a short song from the Beavers
Thanks go to all the leaders (Young and not so Young) who have worked tirelessly for months planning and organising, and who, without their help the event would not have been possible. Then of course, not forgetting Joan who kept us all fed and watered and lastly the Beavers themselves for being well behaved throughout.
Thank you all for making this year’s sleepover a great success and I look forward to next year’s with high hopes.
