Beaver Leader

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section of the Scouting family. They are usually aged between six and eight years old, though it may be possible to join from as young as five and three quarters.

There are currently 12 Beaver Colonies running in South East Berkshire. The details of the nights they run and which local area is shown on the Information for Parents page.

There are up to 24 children in each colony with a minimum of 2 leaders.  Outdoor activities have a ratio of 1 adult to every 6 children.

There is a structured programme for Beavers which covers all sorts of interesting activities - making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories, learning how to be safe.  It provides a chance to learn whilst having fun and most importantly, whilst making new friends.

The Scouting UK website explains the Beaver programme in detail if you'd like to know more.

Locally we organise a number of District events and activities for Beavers which include:

  • Beaver District Challenge
  • Beaver District Sleepover
  • Beaver District Hike
  • Beaver District or County Fun Day.

We currently have waiting lists at a number of our Beaver colonies so please contact us early if you would like your child to take part. We'd like to be able to offer more spaces but this depends on us finding more leaders. If you think you might be interested in helping please see our Volunteering page for more information.
